Step-by-Step Process of Our Lost Wax Casting

How Our Investment Casting / Lost Wax Casting Process Works

1. Wax Pattern Creation

We start by creating a precise wax replica of the desired final part. This pattern can be made using:

A metal mold (for high-volume runs)

3D printed wax or plastic (for prototyping or low-volume)

Each wax pattern is an exact replica of the part we’ll produce.

      2. Pattern Assembly

Multiple wax patterns are then assembled onto a central wax sprue to create a "tree", allowing several parts to be cast at once. This improves efficiency and reduces material waste.

      3. Ceramic Shell Building

The wax tree is repeatedly dipped into a ceramic slurry and coated with fine sand. This process is repeated 6–10 times to build up a strong, heat-resistant shell around the wax. The shell is then dried and hardened.

      4. Wax Removal (Dewaxing)

Once the ceramic mold is fully hardened, it is heated in a furnace to melt and drain out the wax, leaving behind a hollow ceramic shell. This step gives the process its other name—lost wax casting.

      5. Metal Pouring

Molten metal (stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel, etc.) is poured into the preheated ceramic mold. The high temperature ensures smooth filling and reduces the chance of defects.

      6. Shell Removal

After the metal has cooled and solidified, the ceramic shell is carefully broken off using mechanical vibration or water blasting. What remains is a metal version of the original wax model.

      7. Cutting and Finishing

Individual castings are cut from the tree, then cleaned, machined, polished, or heat-treated as required. We can also perform CNC machining or surface finishing like anodizing, sandblasting, or coating for functional or aesthetic purposes.

      8. Inspection & Quality Control

Each part undergoes strict inspection for dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and mechanical properties. Our QC process includes:

        CMM measurement

          X-ray testing

            Surface roughness checks

            Material certification
